By Donald W. Fohrman
28 Apr, 2020
On April 13, 2020, the Illinois Workers’ Compensation Commission (IWCC) enacted an emergency rule which is designed to protect essential employees should they become ill with COVID 19. The rule creates a “rebuttable presumption” that if an essential employee contracts COVID 19, the contraction occurred during-the-course of his or her employment.

Medical advancements have helped many Illinois residents. However, in some cases a medical device may be found to contain a dangerous defect. These defects may lead to serious medical complications, perhaps requiring one or more surgeries to rectify. In extreme cases, these defects may result in fatalities, as Illinois injury attorneys would attest. Over the past 10 years, several types of hip implants have been found to be defective. Patients who are now suffering from chronic pain as a result of these implants may have the right to initiate civil lawsuits against the devices’ manufacturers.

Support employees are the backbone of a quality medical care facility. Nurses, nursing assistants, aides and orderlies are all necessary to provide good healthcare to patients. Unfortunately, these important employees often suffer neck and back injuries as a direct result of manually moving patients. According to National Public Radio, over 35,000 cases of these types of nursing injuries occur every year. As any Chicago workers’ compensation lawyer knows, such injuries may leave workers with debilitating pain and long-term disabilities.

By Donald W. Fohrman
3 Apr, 2015
Self-taken photos, colloquially known as “selfies,” are becoming increasingly popular in Illinois and around the country. Taking selfies while behind the wheel, which is particularly popular among teenage drivers, has become a disturbing trend. This practice is exceptionally dangerous, as it causes drivers to lose focus on the road. Any Chicago car accident attorney would attest that this behavior may lead to serious accidents.
How workers’ compensation reform hurts Illinois workers
By Donald W. Fohrman
1 Apr, 2015
Millions of American workers rely on the security offered by workers’ compensation laws. According to National Public Radio, these statutes require workers to forego the right to sue. In return, employers must pay medical expenses and wages for injured workers until they recover. This long-held system, however, is now under attack in many states. The Illinois Workers’ Compensation Commission explains that workers’ compensation reform legislation has been in place since 2011. As any Illinois workers’ compensation lawyer would know, this has proven disastrous for employees.
