On April 13, 2020, the Illinois Workers’ Compensation Commission (IWCC) enacted an emergency rule which is designed to protect essential employees should they become ill with COVID 19. The rule creates a “rebuttable presumption” that if an essential employee contracts COVID 19, the contraction occurred during-the-course of his or her employment.

A Chicago family recently lost their 5-year-old boy after he was brutally attacked by a dog. In a case often seen by a dog bite attorney in Chicago, the boy, his mother and a sibling were visiting a neighbor’s home when the dog suddenly attacked for no reason. According to the Chicago Tribune, the dog took the boy by the neck and began shaking him like a rag doll. Despite attempts by the mother and neighbors to remove the dog from the boy, it still refused to let go. It was only after the boy’s mother pulled the dog and boy outside and neighbors were able to use random objects to beat the dog that it finally let go of the child. The little boy died at the scene.

Truck accidents can be some of the most devastating, damaging accidents that occur on the nation’s roads. Due to the exceptionally large size of most commercial trucks in relation to other vehicles, trucks tend to sustain minimal damage while other vehicles are severely mangled. An Illinois lawyer may see many drivers in their careers who were critically injured in this type of car accident. State lawmakers are hoping that a new bill taking a tougher stance against negligent truckers will help to stem the tide of these accidents and keep more residents safe.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention states that about 4.5 million dog bites occur annually in the U.S. Sadly, as any dog bite attorney Chicago could attest, these aren’t the only animal-related injuries that happen each year. Many people here in Illinois may also experience injuries involving other animals, ranging from house pets to livestock. When these incidents could have been prevented, victims may have legal recourse.
