By Donald W. Fohrman
28 Apr, 2020
On April 13, 2020, the Illinois Workers’ Compensation Commission (IWCC) enacted an emergency rule which is designed to protect essential employees should they become ill with COVID 19. The rule creates a “rebuttable presumption” that if an essential employee contracts COVID 19, the contraction occurred during-the-course of his or her employment.

Research shows that many things can impair a driver's ability to drive properly. People tend to think about someone being under the influence of drugs and alcohol when they think about impaired driving. Other things that impair one's driving aren't so obvious, but they can be just as dangerous. It is important for someone in an accident to consult a Chicago car accident attorney to determine if the other driver was distracted, because this can affect the amount of compensation they receive.

For many elderly people and their families, the decision to live in a nursing home is a very difficult one. They have to place their trust in strangers to care for and protect vulnerable and sometimes ill people during one of the most challenging times of their lives. What makes it even worse is when this trust is broken. Unfortunately, this occurs much more often than anyone would like to admit. Pedestrian safety is a growing concern in big cities around the country. A recent report from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) indicates a 10 percent increase in pedestrian fatalities from car accidents since 2014. The report is published annually and shows data collected from all 50 states. Data collected in 2015 shows the largest year-to-year increase in pedestrian injuries and fatalities since national record keeping began in 1975. Increased pedestrian injuries in Chicago have created an urgent need for Illinois car accident lawyers who can provide important legal advice.

Falls are the leading cause of death from injury among the elderly, with nearly 10,000 elderly deaths caused by falls every year. One in three people over the age of 65 fall every year, and two out of every three elderly people that fall will fall again in six months. Hospital stays for falls are twice as long as those for any other reason.

Chicago, Ill. February 29th, 2016
Jurors have concluded that Johnson & Johnson was responsible for a woman's death from ovarian cancer. This death is believed to have been brought about by the victim's previous use of a talc-based Johnson & Johnson product. Not only has the talc-based product been linked to ovarian cancer, Johnson & Johnson is believed to have known of the cancer risks associated with its products -- and still failed to notify consumers. This failure will ultimately prove an expensive one for Johnson & Johnson, which is now required to shell out $72 million in compensatory and punitive damages.
